PLEASE RSVP BY NOV. 10 Both as a principal of large, urban public schools and as co-founder of a high-performing charter school, Dr. Anthony Muhammed has won national recognition for leading staffs and students to achieve higher levels of success. In 1995 he co-founded the Sankofa Shule Public School Academy, a charter school in Lansing, Michigan, and just four years later his students' math and writing scores topped all other students in the county. After leading highly successful turnaround efforts as principal of Leavey Middle School and Southfield High School near Detroit, Muhammed was named Michigan's Middle School Principal of the Year (2005). Leavey is now a recognized as a National Exemplary School by the U.S. Department of Education.
Dr. Muhammed is founder of New Frontier 21, and now travels the country providing urban and rural educators with professional development that empowers them to create high-performing schools. He is author of Transforming School Culture: How to Overcome Staff Division (2009) and a contributing author to the book The Collaborative Administrator: Working Together as a Professional Learning Community (2008).
